Does Your Child Have Sleep-Disordered Breathing?
As parents, we all want the best for our children, but it can be challenging to find reliable information on complex issues like sleep and breathing health. During a dental evaluation, we can spot early signs of disordered breathing and swallowing that may impact your child’s sleep, behavior, and overall health. Our treatments support healthy dental development and improve oxygen intake, helping your child feel and function better.
What’s Involved in Treatment?
Treatment for children with sleep-disordered breathing combines therapies to address breathing patterns, tongue posture, and oral development. Depending on your child’s needs, our team may include a dentist, myofunctional therapist, ENT specialist, or sleep specialist. For dental therapy, we use myofunctional mouth guards and expanders to guide growth, correct habits, and support proper breathing and swallowing.
Initial treatment typically lasts around six months, with longer-term goals including the option for early orthodontics.
Benefits of Our Treatment:
- Encourages nasal breathing
- Trains proper tongue posture
- Reduces snoring and teeth grinding
- Decreases bed-wetting and thumb-sucking
- Helps reduce hyperactive behaviors
- Supports straighter teeth as children grow
- Opens the airway for better breathing
- Corrects open bite and improves focus
With early intervention, we aim to help your child grow healthier and potentially avoid more intensive treatments later in life.
